Bowel dysfunction in patients with SCI is a significant problem that often limits activities of daily living and social activity. The loss of independence felt by those suffering from bowel dysfunction, along with the perceived negative stigma surrounding it, leads to social isolation and a decrease in the quality of life for patients. Fear of bowel accidents also frequently restricts patients from activities outside their home [1].
Patients with SCI have to adopt many strategies to maintain an effective bowel management program. Therefore, it is particularly important for patients with cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) to be able to recognize AD during their bowel program. [1] This educational overview will provide learning objectives for assisting patients in identifying symptoms, as well as outlines preventative measures that can be taken for effective bowel care management.
Register for our free webinar to inform and assist providers on how to effectively help their patients manage AD.
